2023 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 56 BY SENATOR CONNICK A RESOLUTION To commend Jennifer Steel Bourgeois for being a guardian angel to the Westbank of New Orleans. WHEREAS, Jennifer Steel Bourgeois is a native of the Westbank of New Orleans; and WHEREAS, a graduate of L.W. Higgins Touro Infirmary Nursing School, and Louisiana State University New Orleans, Jennifer is a lifelong resident of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Jennifer has a God-given gift of writing skills; she was first published at the age of 9 and continued writing through her nursing career with a published article on the cover of the prestigious American Journal of Nursing; and WHEREAS, Jennifer worked seventy-five days straight in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina as the Public Information Officer at West Jefferson Hospital; and WHEREAS, Jennifer is a lifetime volunteer for nonprofits and schools; she has served on several organizations, many times in leadership roles, including: PTA organizations; parochial school boards; as president of the regional American Heart Association Board; a board member of Jefferson Council on Aging; a board member of the Jefferson Community Action Programs (JeffCAP); as a public member of the hearing committee of the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board; Cuillier Career Center community leader committee; as president of the Harvey Canal Industrial Association; Jefferson Parish Workforce Development Board Executive Committee; Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission's (JEDCO) tourism subcommittee of the day; the Stroke Team at WJMC; Community Outreach liaison of the Cancer Center at West Jeff; member of the Citizens for a Clean and Beautiful Jefferson Parish Westbank; chair of Healthy Start of a Healthy Future Committee; and a multi-decade rotarian with the Rotary Club of Westwego; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 56 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Jennifer has been awarded the Louisiana Nursing Association's Nightingale Award, the American Cancer Society's Spirit Award, Role Model by the Youth Leadership Council, Community Activist by St. Elizabeth's Guild, Great 100 Nurses, and Healthcare Hero; and WHEREAS, Jennifer has a creative streak coupled with her nursing background and a volunteer's heart; she continues to serve with the Westbank Business and Industry Association, Stonebridge Property Owners Association in the Greater New Orleans Area, LCMC Health System, Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), and Café Hope; and WHEREAS, Jennifer is a committed citizen who is uniquely skilled at literacy, health awareness, and community service; she remains active in the community, dedicated to improving overall welfare and quality of life; and WHEREAS, being a community service activist and vessel for good, credit and gratitude must be given to Jennifer for her skills and passion for serving the community. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Jennifer Steel Bourgeois for being a guardian angel to the Westbank of New Orleans and does recognize that her services have impacted people far beyond the Westbank community.
