SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 59

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Elizabeth Ann Howard Lewis on the occasion of her
ninetieth birthday.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Elizabeth Ann Howard Lewis on the occasion of her ninetieth birthday.
3 WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ann Howard Lewis was born May 7, 1933, and is the eldest
4 child of Gene and Lillian Howard; and
5 WHEREAS, after graduating high school in May of 1951 from St. Vincent's
6 Academy where she attended since the first grade, Liz married Robert W. Lewis in October
7 of that year; and
8 WHEREAS, Ronald W. Lewis, the first of Liz and Robert's two children, was born
9 on July 11, 1952, and Laurie Lewis Mitchell was born on March 8, 1961; and
10 WHEREAS, soon after her high school graduation, Liz entered the workforce and
11 in 1953, she began a twenty-five year career with Texas Eastern Pipeline Company that
12 ended when the company relocated to Houston, Texas; and
13 WHEREAS, beginning in 1980, Liz was the executive assistant to John L. Copeland
14 at Copeland Oil Company for a decade while also working part-time for Robert and Vassar
15 Mills at VWM Properties; and
16 WHEREAS, Liz's part-time work expanded to full-time employment with VWM
17 Properties and because of her strong work ethic, her responsibilities grew beyond executive
18 assistant to office manager, steward of the checkbook, division orders, and oil and gas

1 leases; and
2 WHEREAS, it was only her husband's serious illness in 2009 that could have
3 interrupted her stellar professional career; and
4 WHEREAS, always willing to share her vast professional experience with others, Liz
5 was a longtime member of Professional Secretaries International, where she served on
6 numerous committees and as treasurer and president in 1984; and
7 WHEREAS, she was also a valuable member of the Red River Desk and Derrick
8 Club for many years and enjoyed lunches and gatherings with her former Texas Eastern
9 Pipeline employees.
10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
11 does hereby commend and congratulate Elizabeth Ann Howard Lewis on her many years of
12 dedicated service, her caring devotion to family, and she is most deserving of recognition
13 for reaching the inspiring milestone of her ninetieth birthday.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
15 Elizabeth Ann Howard Lewis.
