SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 61
BY SENATOR HENSGENS 
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH.  Recognizes Monday, May 8, 2023, as Louisiana
Renewable Energy Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To designate Monday, May 8, 2023, as Louisiana Renewable Energy Day at the Louisiana
3 State Capitol.
4 WHEREAS, Louisiana boasts impressive supplies of onshore and offshore energy
5 resources; and
6 WHEREAS, Louisiana's natural resources have provided thousands of jobs and
7 billions of dollars in economic development; and
8 WHEREAS, according to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana's rich
9 history and expertise in energy development will pave the way for new emerging industries;
10 and
11 WHEREAS, solar energy has become increasingly affordable and efficient in recent
12 years, and can provide significant economic and environmental benefits to our state; and
13 WHEREAS, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association, Louisiana's solar
14 energy resources are expected to grow by more than ten-fold over the next few years; and 
15 WHEREAS, solar growth in Louisiana could bring over four billion dollars in
16 economic development and over four thousand construction jobs; and 
17 WHEREAS, wind energy is an abundant and growing source of renewable energy
18 that can create jobs and economic opportunities in Louisiana; and

1 WHEREAS, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is anticipated to lease over
2 one hundred thousand acres of offshore area for renewable energy development near Lake
3 Charles which could power over four hundred thirty-five thousand homes; and 
4 WHEREAS, Louisiana's maritime and oil and gas industries were instrumental in
5 building the United States' first offshore wind farm; and 
6 WHEREAS, battery storage technology is improving rapidly and can play a critical
7 role in integrating renewable energy sources into our electric grid and creating new jobs in
8 the energy sector; and
9 WHEREAS, hydrogen is a versatile energy carrier that can be produced from
10 renewable sources and used in a variety of applications, including transportation and
11 industrial processes, creating new economic opportunities in Louisiana; and
12 WHEREAS, the potential for growth in the clean hydrogen sector is anticipated to
13 be significant in Louisiana due to the state's existing infrastructure and expertise, and
14 development of the Hydrogen Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma (HALO) Hydrogen Hub;
15 and 
16 WHEREAS, the vast majority of new power plant facilities proposed in Louisiana
17 are renewable energy projects across fifty parishes; and 
18 WHEREAS, the development of renewable energy and clean energy jobs can create
19 good-paying jobs and support local economies in Louisiana, particularly in rural and coastal
20 areas that have been hard hit by economic challenges; and
21 WHEREAS, supporting renewable energy and clean energy jobs can help diversify
22 our state's economy and position Louisiana as a leader in the transition to a clean energy
23 future; and
24 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to
25 recognize Louisiana Renewable Energy Day.
26 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
27 does hereby recognize Monday, May 8, 2023, as Louisiana Renewable Energy Day at the
28 Louisiana State Capitol.
