SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 69

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Erica Spruille on becoming a member of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority Incorporated.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate Ms. Erica Spruille on becoming a member of Delta Sigma
3 Theta Sorority Incorporated.
4 WHEREAS, Erica, a college educated woman who is committed to community
5 service, academic achievement, and the quest for excellence in all endeavors, has
6 accomplished a goal she set to join a distinguish group of women; and
7 WHEREAS, on January 13, 1913, twenty-two illustrious Black women founded
8 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., at Howard University; and
9 WHEREAS, those twenty-two women were aware that there was and would always
10 be a need for Black women to play an active role in the struggles concerning
11 African-Americans and the need for community involvement; and
12 WHEREAS, in the past one hundred-ten years, the vision of the founders has
13 withstood all odds and the vision is still being strengthened each day with women like Erica;
14 and
15 WHEREAS, Erica joins the over three hundred fifty thousand members in one
16 thousand collegiate and alumnae chapters in the United States, Canada, Japan, Bermuda, the
17 Bahamas, Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, Southern Africa, United Arab Emirates, Germany,
18 Korea, and West Africa; and

1 WHEREAS, Erica is a true believer in the five-point thrust of Delta Sigma Theta
2 Sorority which are: educational development, economic development, physical and mental
3 health, political awareness and involvement, and international awareness and involvement;
4 and
5 WHEREAS, the success of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority's public service programs has
6 depended upon the continuous interaction of each member, both locally and nationally; and
7 WHEREAS, Erica and her line sisters will forever be known in Deltaland as the
8 "PRESIDENTed 86" line; and
9 WHEREAS, Erica was number fifty-two on the line and given the name "Merry
10 Maker"; and
11 WHEREAS, Erica's life has been full of many accomplishments, and becoming a
12 "Delta" is one of her proudest "OOOO-OOP".
13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
14 does hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Erica Spruille on becoming a member of Delta
15 Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
17 Ms. Erica Spruille.
