SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 70

SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Recognizes Wednesday, May 10, 2023, as National
African American Insurance Association-Louisiana Chapter Day in the Louisiana Senate.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To recognize Wednesday, May 10, 2023, as the National African American Insurance
3 Association-Louisiana Chapter Day in the Louisiana Senate.
4 WHEREAS, the National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) was
5 founded by Jerald L. Tillman in 1997, in Cincinnati, Ohio; and
6 WHEREAS, NAAIA was organized to create a network among people of color and
7 others employed in and affiliated with the insurance industry; and
8 WHEREAS, NAAIA seeks to pool together talent to promote and enhance
9 professionalism that can lead to industry recognition and career opportunities for its
10 members; and
11 WHEREAS, the mission of NAAIA is to empower African American insurance
12 professionals in the insurance industry and work to attract talented individuals to the
13 insurance industry; and
14 WHEREAS, NAAIA is engaged in the sharing of information for personal growth
15 and professional development; and
16 WHEREAS, NAAIA currently has twenty-one chapters across the United States; and
17 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Chapter of NAAIA was re-established in 2014 during the
18 NAAIA National Conference that was held in New Orleans, Louisiana; and

1 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Chapter is currently composed of members from New
2 Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and other municipalities.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
4 does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 10, 2023, as the National African American
5 Insurance Association-Louisiana Chapter Day in the Louisiana Senate.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
7 Mr. Jerald Tillman, founder of the National African American Insurance Association, and
8 to Mr. Kendrick Slan, president of the Louisiana Chapter.
