SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 71

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Clarence H. "Sonny" Savoie upon his retirement from
the St. Charles Parish School Board.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Clarence H. "Sonny" Savoie on the occasion of his retirement from the St.
3 Charles Parish School Board.
4 WHEREAS, Clarence H. "Sonny" Savoie is a native of Des Allemands, Louisiana,
5 and resides in Paradis with is wife, Merle DeJean Savoie, and they have two children and
6 four grandchildren; and
7 WHEREAS, Clarence H. "Sonny" Savoie graduated from Hahnville High School in
8 1959; and
9 WHEREAS, Clarence enlisted in the United States Army and served for three years,
10 and after his military service, he began his career at Texaco, where he worked for over
11 thirty-two years; and
12 WHEREAS, in 1986 Clarence was elected to the St. Charles Parish School Board and
13 served as a member for 36 years; and
14 WHEREAS, in addition to his service and dedication as a school board member he
15 has been involved in community and professional organizations, including the National
16 Parent Teacher Association Board of Directors, National Board for Professional Teaching
17 Standards, Louisiana Board of Regents, St. Charles Public Schools Foundation, Inc., Paradis
18 Volunteer Fire Department, Waterworks District in St. Charles Parish, River Region

1 Chamber of Commerce, Rotary International, and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; and
2 WHEREAS, he has held several national and state positions in many different
3 organizations including president of the National School Boards Association, National
4 Federation of Urban and Suburban School Districts, Louisiana School Boards Association,
5 and the Louisiana State Parent Teacher Association; and
6 WHEREAS, he has received numerous honors throughout his tenure on the school
7 board; he was selected as the 2008 Louisiana School Board Member of the Year and the
8 2009 Employee Support for the National Guard and Support Award; and
9 WHEREAS, his commitment to the education of students and their families will
10 forever be remembered throughout the St. Charles Parish School Board office and by
11 administrators, staff, students, and parents.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
13 does hereby commend Clarence H. "Sonny" Savoie on his many accomplishments and does
14 hereby extend heartfelt wishes for a long and happy retirement.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
16 Clarence H. "Sonny" Savoie.
