HLS 24RS-533 ORIGINAL 2024 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 168 BY REPRESENTATIVE CARLSON LIBRARIES: Provides relative to qualifications for cerified librarians 1 AN ACT 2To amend and reenact R.S. 25:222(A), relative to the State Board of Library Examiners; to 3 provide relative to certification of professional librarians; to provide relative to the 4 educational requirements of applicants; and to provide for related matters. 5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 25:222(A) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7 ยง222. State board of library examiners; creation; members, appointment, and terms 8 of office; duties; examinations of applicants; fee for examination and 9 certificate 10 A.(1) There is created a State Board of Library Examiners to be composed 11 of three members, all of whom must be experienced and trained librarians, appointed 12 and chosen by the Board of Commissioners of the State Library of Louisiana for a 13 term of four years who shall serve without pay. The members of the board shall 14 meet and organize and elect one chairman and a secretary. The board of library 15 examiners shall have authority to establish rules and regulations for its government 16 and prescribe examinations, qualifications, conditions, and requirements for those 17 seeking certificates or permits to practice the profession of librarian. Proposed law retains present law and authorizes the board to require applicants to possess a graduate degree. Provides that the board may not require applicants to possess a graduate degree in a particular field of study.
