HB 219 Original	2024 Regular Session	Bayham
Abstract:  Prohibits a term-limited state legislator from qualifying for reelection to the same office
for a period of 10 years.
Present constitution provides that a member of the legislature shall be elected for a four-year term. 
Proposed constitutional amendment retains present constitution.
Present constitution provides that no person who has been elected to serve as a member of the Senate
for more than two and one-half terms in three consecutive terms shall be elected to the Senate for
the succeeding term.
Proposed constitutional amendment instead provides that a term-limited member of the Senate shall
not qualify for election to the Senate for 10 years following the end of the third consecutive term,
rather than for the succeeding term.
Present constitution provides that no person who has been elected to serve as a member of the House
of Representatives for more than two and one-half terms in three consecutive terms shall be elected
to the House of Representatives for the succeeding term.
Proposed constitutional amendment instead provides that a term-limited member of the House of
Representatives shall not qualify for election to the House of Representatives for 10 years following
the end of the third consecutive term, rather than for the succeeding term. 
Provides for submission of the proposed amendment to the voters at the statewide election to be held
Nov. 5, 2024.
