CRIME:  Increases the penalties for public bribery
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 14:118(C)(1), relative to offenses against organized government;
3 to provide relative to the penalties for public bribery; and to provide for related
4 matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 14:118(C)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
7 ยง118.  Public bribery

9	C.(1)  Whoever commits the crime of public bribery shall be fined not more
10 than one two thousand dollars, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not
11 more than five ten years, or both.

Present law provides that whoever commits the crime of public bribery shall be fined not
more than $1,000, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not more than five years,
or both.
Proposed law changes the penalty to provide for a maximum fine of $2,000.
Proposed law further changes the penalty of imprisonment, to be served with or without hard
labor, from a maximum of five years to 10 years.
