RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 496 (HB 358) 2024 Regular Session Bacala Existing law provides for nine judgeships in the 21st Judicial District Court (Livingston, St. Helena, and Tangipahoa Parishes). New law adds a 10th judgeship to the 21st Judicial District Court. New law also adds a new division to the 21st Judicial District Court. Existing law provides for five judgeships in the 23rd Judicial District Court (Ascension, Assumption, and St. James Parishes). New law adds a 6th judgeship to the 23rd Judicial District Court. New law also adds a new division to the 23rd Judicial District Court. New law provides for the judge and his successors to be elected at large, to have jurisdiction throughout the district, and receive the same compensation and expense allowances as other judges in the district. New law provides for the new judge to serve a term which begins on January 1st immediately following the effective date of new law. Further provides for the judgeship to expire at the same time as provided in existing law as other judges of the court. Effective in part upon signature of governor (June 11, 2024).
