Abstract: Provides an exception for valid motor vehicle liability policies issued in another state to
owners of vehicles registered in this state.
Present law (R.S. 32:900(A)) provides that a "Motor Vehicle Liability Policy" means an owner's or
operator's policy of liability insurance certified under present law is issued by an insurance carrier
duly authorized to transact business in this state.
Proposed law provides an exception to present law that allows for an owner of a vehicle registered
in this state who obtains a valid motor vehicle liability policy issued in another state by an insurer
with the same company name as an insurance carrier that is authorized to issue automobile insurance
in this state to have his policy be deemed valid proof of financial responsibility.
