Existing law (R.S. 32:900(A)) provides that a "Motor Vehicle Liability Policy" means an
owner's or operator's policy of liability insurance certified under existing law is issued by an
insurance carrier duly authorized to transact business in this state.
New law provides an exception to existing law that allows for an owner of a vehicle
registered in this state who obtains a valid motor vehicle liability policy issued in another
state to have his policy be deemed valid proof of financial responsibility in this state.
Effective August 1, 2024.
