[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 432 Engrossed 2024 Regular Session Illg Abstract: Creates the "Louisiana State University Baseball National Champions" special prestige license plate and provides for the creation, issuance, design, implementation, fees, distributions, and promulgation of rules applicable to this license plate. Proposed law requires that the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, office of motor vehicles, issue a special prestige license plate to be known as the "Louisiana State University Baseball National Champions" license plate, provided that there is a minimum of 1,000 applicants for such plates. Proposed law specifies that the plate is restricted to use on passenger car, pickup trucks, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, and vans. Proposed law requires the secretary work in conjunction with La. State University Bd. of Supervisors to select the color and design of the plate. Requires the design include the words "Louisiana State University Baseball National Champions". Proposed law specifies that the plate will be issued, upon application, to any citizen of the state in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate. Proposed law requires that the department collect an annual fee of $25 in addition to the standard motor vehicle license tax imposed in present law and a handling fee of $3.50 for each plate to be retained by the department to offset a portion of administrative costs. Proposed law requires the department to retain one dollar from each annual fee to offset administrative costs. Specifies that the remainder of the fee will be forwarded to LSU as a charitable donation to school by the applicant. Proposed law requires the secretary promulgate and adopt rules and regulations as are necessary to implement the provisions of proposed law. Directs the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, office of motor vehicles, to create this special prestige license plate when the applicable statutory provisions are met and its system is updated to accommodate the creation of new plates.
