MTR VEHICLE/DRIVER LIC: Increases the driver's license fee and the specific portion
directed to the litter abatement fund
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 32:412(A)(1), relative to the litter abatement fund; to provide for
3 an increase to the drivers license fee for additional source of revenue to the litter
4 abatement account; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 32:412(A)(1) hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
7 ยง412. Amount of fees; credit or refund; duration of license; veteran designation;
8 disabled veteran designation; university logo; "I'm a Cajun" designation;
9 needs accommodation designation; autism spectrum disorder designation;
10 disbursement of funds; renewal by mail or electronic commerce of Class "D"
11 or "E" drivers' licenses; disposition of certain fees; exception
12 A.(1) Every applicant for a Class "D" driver's license, or for a renewal of a
13 Class "D" driver's license, except those bona fide residents of the city of New
14 Orleans, shall pay for such basic license a fee of forty-two forty-eight dollars and
15 seventy-five cents. Eleven dollars and fifteen cents of the fee shall be paid to the
16 Louisiana State Police Retirement System Fund. One Seven dollars and fifty cents
17 of the fee shall be forwarded by the department to the litter abatement account which
18 is created within the Conservation Fund through the provisions of R.S. 56:10(B)(15).

Abstract: Increases the driver's license fee as an additional source of revenue to fund the
litter program.
Present law specifies that every applicant for a Class "D" driver's license, or renewal of a
Class "D" driver's license, except those bona fide residents of New Orleans, must pay for
such basic license fee of $42.75. Further specifies that $11.15 must be paid to the La. State
Police Retirement System Fund. The remaining $1.50 of the fee will be forwarded by the
department to the litter abatement account.
Proposed law increases the basic license fee in present law from $42.75 to $48.75 and
changes the fee to be forwarded to the litter abatement account from $1.50 to $7.50.
