BY REPRESENTATIVE ST. BLANC AND SENATOR ALLAIN
CORONERS:  Provides relative to the Coroner's Operational Fund for St. Mary Parish
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 13:5722(A)(2)(h), relative to courts in St. Mary Parish; to require an
3 additional court fee in criminal matters in all courts in St. Mary Parish; to provide
4 relative to the coroner's operational fund; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 13:5722(A)(2)(h) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 
7 ยง5722.  Coroner's Operational Fund established

12	(h)  In criminal cases, including traffic violations, in all courts in St. Mary
13 Parish, a fee of not less than five dollars nor more than ten dollars shall be imposed
14 on every defendant who is convicted after trial or plea of guilty, which fee shall be
15 used solely to defray the operational costs of the office of the coroner of the parish.

17 Section 2. In accordance with the provisions of R.S. 13:62, the change in court costs
18or fees as provided by this Act shall become effective if and when the Judicial Council
19provides a recommendation that such court costs or fees meet the applicable guidelines in

1its report to the Louisiana Legislature.  No fees shall be imposed or collected without

Abstract:  Requires St. Mary Parish courts to collect a fee of not less than $5 nor more than
$10 in criminal cases to be used solely to defray the operational costs of the office
of the coroner of the parish.
Present law establishes the Coroner's Operational Fund and a criminal court fee on certain
defendants dedicated to defraying the operational costs of the office of the coroner in the
parish in which the conviction occurred.  
Proposed law authorizes all courts in St. Mary Parish to collect a fee of not less than $5 nor
more than $10 for the support of the coroner.
Proposed law requires approval from the Judicial Council prior to proposed law becoming
effective.
