CONTRACTS: Increases the contract limit applicable to the Department of Transportation
and Development
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 48:252(A)(introductory paragraph) and 253(A), relative to
3 contract limits for projects by the Department of Transportation and Development;
4 to provide for contract limits for certain projects; to provide an effective date; and
5 to provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 48:252(A)(introductory paragraph) and 253(A) are hereby amended
8and reenacted to read as follows:
9 §252. Advertisement for bids; public presentment and reading of bids; fee for bid
10 proposals
11 A. Contracts for projects with an aggregate estimated cost less than the
12 contract limit but in excess of fifty one hundred thousand dollars shall be let in
13 accordance with the following provisions:

15 §253. Bid bonds accompanying bids
16 A. Every bid submitted for projects in excess of fifty one hundred thousand
17 dollars shall be accompanied by a bid bond guaranteed by a surety company
18 qualified to do business in this state. The bid bond submitted shall be for five
19 percent of the official bid amount.

1 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
2signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
3by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If
4vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
5effective on the day following such approval.

Abstract: Increases the contract limit for certain projects.
Present law specifies that contracts for projects with an aggregate estimate cost less than the
contract limit but in excess of $50,000.
Proposed law increases the contract limit in present law from in excess of $50,000 to in
excess of $100,000.
Present law requires every bid submitted in excess of $50,000 be accompanied by a bid bond
guaranteed by a surety company qualified to do business in this state.
Proposed law increases the excess bid amount in present law from $50,000 to $100,000.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
