COURTS:  Authorizes the Twenty-Fifth Judicial District Court to hold certain sessions of
court west of the Mississippi River
Synopsis of Senate Amendments
1.Adds purposes for  holding court in Plaquemines Parish west of the Mississippi
River.
2.Clarifies that the court may hold civil and criminal sessions on non-jury matters
and summary proceedings. 
3.Provides that proposed law shall not be construed as legislative approval of the
removal or relocation in any manner of the Plaquemines Parish courthouse.
Digest of Bill as Finally Passed by Senate
Present law authorizes district judges to fix terms of court and hold sessions of court in
accordance with the number of parishes in the district.
Proposed law retains present law and provides that in the interest of judicial efficiency and
to promote access to affordable legal representation, the judge in the 25th JDC may hold civil
and criminal sessions on non-jury matters and summary proceedings at a designated location
in Plaquemines Parish west of the Mississippi River.
Proposed law provides that the provisions of proposed law shall not be construed as
legislative approval of the removal or relocation in any manner of the Plaquemines Parish
courthouse.
