HB 555 Original	2024 Regular Session	Deshotel
Abstract: Requires parishes and municipalities in which residents are not allowed to select their
own garbage collections services to follow public bid law when contracting for garbage
collection services.
Present law grants governing authorities over parishes and municipalities the power to engage in the
collection and disposal of trash within their jurisdiction, to grant licenses and permits to franchises
with the requirement that public bid law be followed for exclusive franchises, to enter into garbage
collection contracts for specified terms, to assess service charges, and to otherwise regulate the
collection and disposal of garbage.
Proposed law retains present law and adds a requirement for parishes and municipalities in which
residents are not allowed to select their own garbage collection services to follow public bid law
when awarding garbage collection contracts.
