[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 728 Engrossed 2024 Regular Session Davis Abstract: Removes certain initial eligibility requirements for the M.J. Foster Promise Program. Present law provides for the M.J. Foster Promise Program, a financial assistance program for students attending a two-year public postsecondary education institution or proprietary school who are enrolled in certain qualified programs. Provides for specific initial eligibility requirements, including being at least 21 years old and not having a conviction for any crime of violence. Proposed law lowers minimum age for initial eligibility from 21 to 17. Proposed law removes requirement to have not been convicted of a violent crime. Otherwise retains present law. Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action. (Amends R.S. 17:3047.2(A)(1); Repeals R.S. 17:3047.2(A)(8)(b))
