R.S. 40:31.35(C) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7 ยง31.35. Commercial seafood permit fee 8 * * * 9 C. The In addition to the fee provided for in Subsection A of this Section, the 10 department shall charge and collect an imported seafood safety fee of one hundred 11 dollars annually from each holder of a commercial seafood permit fee who sells 12 processes or distributes imported seafood. The fee shall be equal to one-tenth of a 13 percent of the gross revenue of the processor or distributor annually. HLS 24RS-784 ENGROSSED HB NO. 748 Present law requires a commercial seafood plant or distributor to obtain an annual commercial seafood permit to operate in the state. The permit partially supports the inspection, monitoring, sampling, and testing of seafood. The amount of the fee is determined by the annual gross revenue of the plant or distributor. Present law provides that a holder of a commercial seafood permit who sells imported seafood will be assessed an imported seafood safety fee of $100 annually. Proposed law changes present law and provides that a holder of commercial seafood permit who processes or distributes imported seafood shall be assessed an imported seafood safety fee equal to 0.1% of the gross revenue of a processor or distributor.
