[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 789 Engrossed 2024 Regular Session Bourriaque Abstract: Provides relative to court reporters for the 14th JDC. Present law provides that, for all cases that are reported and transcribed for an appeal, a fee of $3.25 per page for originals and $0.75 per page for each copy shall be charged by and paid to the court reporter. Proposed law provides that, in the 14th JDC, a majority of the judges shall determine the amount of the fee which shall be paid to the court reporter for the transcription of each page of all testimony reported and transcribed and the amount of the fee per copy of each page of transcribed testimony. Provides further that proposed law shall also apply to cases which are reported but not transcribed. Proposed law requires approval from the Judicial Council prior to proposed law becoming effective. (Amends R.S. 13:964(H)) Summary of Amendments Adopted by House The Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on Judiciary to the original bill: 1. Require the judges to determine certain fees to be paid to court reporters. 2. Require Judicial Council approval of the additional court fee.
