HEALTH CARE:  Provides for the practice of audiology and speech-language pathology
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 37:2651(1), relative to the practice of speech-language pathology
3 and audiology; to provide for definitions; to provide that speech-language pathology
4 is included in the services of an audiologist; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 37:2651(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
7 ยง2651.  Definitions
8	As used in this Chapter:
9	(1)  "Audiologist" means any person who represents himself to the public by
10 title or description of services, methods, or procedures as one who offers to provide
11 or provides services involving the application of principles, methods, and procedures
12 of the science and profession of speech-language pathology and audiology.  An
13 audiologist, by definition of scope of practice, may sell and dispense hearing aids
14 under these provisions.

Abstract: Modifies the definition of audiologist.
Present law defines "audiologist" as an individual who offers to provide or provides services
involving the science and profession of audiology.
Present law provides that an audiologist may sell and dispense hearing aids.
Proposed law adds to the definition of "audiologist" the profession of speech-language
pathology.
