HB 89 Reengrossed 2024 Regular Session	Bagley
Abstract: Authorizes parishes with a population range of 20,001 to 65,000 to have three authorized
positions in the office of registrar of voters.
Present law provides that the number of authorized positions for state employees in the office of a
registrar of voters, including the position of registrar of voters, shall be based on parish population
figures. Provides that parishes with a population range of zero to 30,000 shall have two authorized
positions and parishes with a population range of 30,001 to 65,000 shall have three positions.
Proposed law instead provides that parishes with a population range of zero to 20,000 shall have two
positions. Parishes with a population range of 20,001 to 65,000 shall have three positions.
Present law provides that parish figures may be based on those shown by the latest federal decennial
census, the La. Tech University population estimates for La. parishes, or as determined by the
governing authority of each parish in accordance with law.
Proposed law provides that parish figures may be based on parish population estimates published
pursuant to the U.S. Bureau of the Census Federal State Cooperative Program for Population
Estimates, rather than the La. Tech University population estimates for La. parishes.
