RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 596 (HB 89) 2024 Regular Session Bagley Existing law provides that the number of authorized positions for state employees in the office of a registrar of voters, including the position of registrar of voters, shall be based on the population of the parish. Prior law provided that parishes with a population of not more than 30,000 than had two authorized positions and parishes with a population range of 30,001 to 65,000 had three positions. New law instead provides that parishes with a population range of not more than 19,000 have two positions. Parishes with a population range of 19,001 to 65,000 have three positions. Existing law provides that parish population information for such purposes may be based on the latest federal decennial census or as determined by the parish governing authority in accordance with law. Prior law provided that parish population could be based on La. Tech University population estimates for La. parishes. New law removes prior law and provides that parish population may be based on population estimates published pursuant to the U.S. Bureau of the Census Federal State Cooperative Program for Population Estimates.
