[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 903 Original 2024 Regular Session Newell Abstract: Changes the criteria for the position of museum director of the La. State. Museum. Present law (R.S. 25:341) provides that the La. State Museum is established as a complex of facilities in the cities of Baton Rouge, Natchitoches, New Orleans, Patterson, Thibodaux, and Winnfield under the management and supervision of the office of the state museum of the Dept. of Culture, Recreation and Tourism (department). Provides that the museum is governed by a board of directors, which includes the secretary of the department, or his designee. Proposed law retains present law. Present law requires that the museum director be appointed by the lt. governor from a list of three candidates nominated by a search committee appointed by the board. Requires the board to establish criteria for the position of director that include but are not limited to possession of a master's degree in Museum Science, or a related field, and must provide clear evidence of successful performance as a skilled professional. Proposed law retains present law but expands the criteria for the position of director to include equivalent experience in a related field. (Amends R.S. 25:343(A))
