Abstract: Changes the criteria for the position of museum director of the La. State Museum.
Present law (R.S. 25:341) provides that the La. State Museum is established as a complex
of facilities in the cities of Baton Rouge, Natchitoches, New Orleans, Patterson, Thibodaux,
and Winnfield under the management and supervision of the office of the state museum of
the Dept. of Culture, Recreation and Tourism (department).  Provides that the museum is
governed by a board of directors, which includes the secretary of the department, or his designee.
Proposed law retains present law.
Present law requires that the museum director be appointed by the lt. governor from a list of three
candidates nominated by a search committee appointed by the board.  Requires the board to establish
criteria for the position of director that include but are not limited to possession of a master's degree
in Museum Science, or a related field, and must provide clear evidence of successful performance
as a skilled professional.
Proposed law retains present law allows for fewer than three nominations and expands the criteria
for the position of director to include equivalent experience in a related field.
