Abstract: Provides for the jurisdiction of justice of the peace courts in Avoyelles Parish.
Present law provides that the justice of the peace courts in Caddo Parish shall have concurrent
jurisdiction with district courts over property standards violations in the district. Provides further that
a constable of a justice of a peace court in Caddo Parish may issue summons and serve subpoenas
for violations that occur in the district.
Present law provides that a constable of a justice of a peace court in St. Tammany Parish may issue
summons and serve subpoenas for violations that occur anywhere within St. Tammany Parish for
a property standards or nuisance violation.  Provides further that the justice of the peace courts in
St. Tammany Parish shall have concurrent jurisdiction with district courts over property standards
and nuisance violations, with the exclusion of certain wards.
Proposed law retains present law and provides that a justice of the peace court in Avoyelles Parish
shall have concurrent jurisdiction over property standards and nuisance violations anywhere in the
parish which the court is situated.  Provides further that a constable of a justice of the peace court
in Avoyelles Parish may issue summons and serve subpoenas for such violations occurring anywhere
within the territorial jurisdiction of the justice of the peace court.
