ENROLLED 2024 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 97 BY REPRESENTATIVE MCMAKIN 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact R.S. 14:97.1(A) and to enact R.S. 14:97.1(C), relative to solicitation 3 on certain highways and streets; to provide relative to the elements of the offense; 4 to provide for a definition; to provide for a statement of legislative intent; and to 5 provide for related matters. 6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 7 Section 1. The legislature finds that the practices of solicitation and offering or 8 donating to persons on public roadways or rights-of-way and interstate highways creates an 9 unsafe situation for the well-being of both pedestrians and motorists within this state and all 10 will be well served by implementation of this Act. 11 Section 2. R.S. 14:97.1(A) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S. 14:97.1(C) is 12 hereby enacted to read as follows: 13 ยง97.1. Solicitation on an interstate highway or in a public right-of-way 14 A. Solicitation on an interstate highway or in a public right-of-way is the 15 intentional act of soliciting, begging, panhandling, or otherwise requesting anything 16 of value on any interstate highway, public right-of-way, or any entrance or exit ramp 17 of an interstate highway. 18 * * * Page 1 of 2 CODING: Words in struck through type are deletions from existing law; words underscored are additions.
