SNAP/FOOD STAMPS: Directs the Department of Children and Family Services to seek
a waiver from the federal government to limit access to unhealthy foods
Synopsis of Senate Amendments
1.Changes from a requirement to a request that Department of Children and
Family Services (DCFS) seek a rule waiver from the United States Department
of Agriculture (USDA) to obtain approval to remove unhealthy foods from the
list of approved foods that may be purchased with Supplemental Nutrition
Assistance Program benefits.
2.Removes the requirement that the DCFS present the rule waiver to the House
and Senate committees on health and welfare prior to submitting it to the
USDA.
