State Bar Association to work with organizations providing legal aid to assist parents and guardians of children with disabilities to obtain permanent tutorships 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2To urge and request the Louisiana State Bar Association to raise awareness about all legal 3 options including but not limited to supported decision-making, power of attorney, 4 continuing and permanent tutorship, and limited and full interdiction, and to assist 5 parents and guardians of children with disabilities to obtain the best legal option that 6 best suits their families. 7 WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Bar Association's mission is to assist and serve its 8members in the practice of law, assure access to and aid in the administration of justice, and 9increase public understanding of and respect for the law; and 10 WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Bar Association's mission is also to expand access 11to justice; and 12 WHEREAS, the purpose of a legal aid organization is to help people who cannot 13afford to pay for representation; and 14 WHEREAS, parents have an interest in helping to make decisions including 15educational, medical, and financial decisions with and for their child. 16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 17urge and request the Louisiana State Bar Association to raise awareness about all legal 18options including but not limited to supported decision-making, power of attorney, 19continuing and permanent tutorship, and limited and full interdiction, and to work with legal 20aid organizations to assist parents and guardians of children with disabilities.
