HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 38
BY REPRESENTATIVES KERNER, WILFORD CARTER, MIKE JOHNSON,
LARVADAIN, MELERINE, TAYLOR, AND TURNER
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To urge and request the Louisiana State Bar Association to raise awareness about all legal
options including but not limited to supported decision-making, power of attorney,
continuing and permanent tutorship, and limited and full interdiction, and to assist
parents and guardians of children with disabilities to obtain the best legal option that
best suits their families.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Bar Association's mission is to assist and serve its
members in the practice of law, assure access to and aid in the administration of justice, and
increase public understanding of and respect for the law; and 
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Bar Association's mission is also to expand access
to justice; and 
WHEREAS, the purpose of a legal aid organization is to help people who cannot
afford to pay for representation; and
WHEREAS, parents have an interest in helping to make decisions including
educational, medical, and financial decisions with and for their child.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
urge and request the Louisiana State Bar Association to raise awareness about all legal
options including but not limited to supported decision-making, power of attorney,
continuing and permanent tutorship, and limited and full interdiction, and to work with legal
aid organizations to assist parents and guardians of children with disabilities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 
Louisiana State Bar Association Board of Governors.
