BLANC, AND ZERINGUE AND SENATORS BOUDREAUX, CLOUD, COUSSAN, MIGUEZ, MILLER, REESE, AND STINE SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates April 16, 2024, as Acadiana Red and White Day at the state capitol 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2To designate Tuesday, April 16, 2024, as Acadiana Red and White Day at the state capitol. 3 WHEREAS, One Acadiana, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and the 4University of Louisiana at Lafayette Alumni Association are bringing Acadiana's economic 5development, chamber, civic, business, and higher education partners together for Acadiana 6Red and White Day to promote the shared interests of the Acadiana region; and 7 WHEREAS, these leaders are focused every day on priorities to advance the 8Acadiana region and the state of Louisiana, and they have made tremendous strides to 9enhance economic competitiveness, talent development, and quality of place through 10collaboration and innovation with legislators and other public officials; and 11 WHEREAS, Acadiana Red and White Day provides an opportunity to advocate for 12such priorities and celebrate shared achievements; and 13 WHEREAS, a top priority of the region's leaders is communicating the crucial role 14of our higher education institutions in improving economic competitiveness, cultivating 15talent, and boosting quality of life in the region and the state; and 16 WHEREAS, Acadiana is coming together to recognize the ongoing successes of the 17University of Louisiana at Lafayette in its academic, athletic, and research endeavors; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 24RS-2833 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 67 1 WHEREAS, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette has, for 125 years, supported 2and improved the educational, social, and economic well-being of the people of Acadiana 3and beyond; and 4 WHEREAS, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette has an annual statewide 5economic impact of $2.7 billion, supporting over 34,600 jobs and returning eight dollars to 6the Louisiana economy for every one dollar invested; and 7 WHEREAS, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is preparing for the next 125 8years of progress by advancing a vision for healthcare, K-12 education, sustainability, and 9other areas to improve the quality of life for Louisiana and its citizens; and 10 WHEREAS, continued success in supporting the University of Louisiana at Lafayette 11and advancing the Acadiana region and the state of Louisiana will require ongoing 12leadership, shared vision, and strong collaboration with partners throughout the region and 13the entire state. 14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 15designate Tuesday, April 16, 2024, as Acadiana Red and White Day at the state capitol and 16does hereby encourage all Louisianians to celebrate the Acadiana region's foundational 17contributions to Louisiana's culture.
