HIGHWAYS/INTERSTATE: Urges and requests the Department of Transportation and
Development to create an indication of a merging lane at Exit 159 on the Essen Lane
ramp of I-10 West
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to create a proper
3 indication of a merging lane for Exit 159 on the Essen Lane ramp of I-10 West.
4 WHEREAS, there is no indication that lanes merge at Exit 159 on the Essen Lane
5ramp of I-10 West, and those who are traveling are unfamiliar with the merge; and
6 WHEREAS, most travelers are not aware that this is a merge lane which creates a
7safety hazard on the interstate by forcing drivers to abruptly get into the center lane; and
8 WHEREAS, there are many accidents on this road due to a lack of indications; and
9 WHEREAS, proper signage would help eliminate accidents and provide drivers with
10critical information, allowing them sufficient time to anticipate upcoming road changes and
11adjust their driving accordingly; and
12 WHEREAS, it is essential to place indications before the merge point with enough
13distance and visibility to properly alert the driver; and
14 WHEREAS, proper signage indicating the lane will merge is designed to help ease
15congestion and reduce the length of traffic jams while simultaneously enhancing safety.
16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
17urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to create a proper
18indication of a merging lane for Exit 159 on the Essen Lane ramp of I-10 West.
