HLS 24RS-4030 ORIGINAL 2024 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 203 BY REPRESENTATIVE CARVER COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Mandeville Republican Women on forty years of volunteer public service 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend the Mandeville Republican Women on forty years of volunteer public service 3 throughout Louisiana. 4 WHEREAS, in 1984, Lane Carson, state chairman of the Reagan/Bush campaign and 5DeNell Haines, a dedicated republican woman, hosted an organizational meeting for 6seventeen women who believed that it was time for a republican women's club in 7Mandeville; and 8 WHEREAS, on May 17, 1984, the Mandeville Republican Women's Club received 9its charter from the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW), establishing it as 10an affiliate of both the NFRW and the Louisiana Federation of Republican Women; and 11 WHEREAS, the first initiative that the ladies undertook was to establish a 12Reagan/Bush Victory Team Headquarters and to organize voter registration at Mandeville 13city hall; and 14 WHEREAS, in 1986, the club began promoting an informed public through political 15education and activities, coordinating campaign efforts and volunteer support, providing 16forums for candidates and elected officials to meet their constituents and hear from the 17voters, as well as recruiting and training candidates to run for office; and 18 WHEREAS, the women continue these activities along with providing voter 19education and information to interested citizens; the club is recognized as a powerful 20volunteer political force locally and throughout the state; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 24RS-4030 ORIGINAL HR NO. 203 1 WHEREAS, in 1988 the members played a major role in hosting the Republican 2National Committee Convention in New Orleans, which is still a fond memory among the 3party; and 4 WHEREAS, the club has received awards including the NFRW Diamond and Gold 5Awards and club awards for fundraising, community service, membership growth, and 6literacy; and 7 WHEREAS, in conjunction with the club's success over the years, many Mandeville 8Republican Women members have been recognized for their leadership and service and 9appointed or elected to a variety of offices at the local, state, and federal levels; and 10 WHEREAS, the Mandeville Republican Women hosts several signature events in 11Mandeville: the Fall Card Party, Christmas Membership Tea and Auction, Candidates' Jazz 12Brunch and Glad Hatters' Competition, Storybook Christmas, and the Passion for Fashion 13show; and 14 WHEREAS, for forty years, members of the Mandeville Republican Women's Club 15have been dedicated to making a difference in the community. 16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 17Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Mandeville Republican Women on forty 18years of volunteer public service throughout the state and does hereby recognize the 19accomplishments of the Mandeville Republican Women's Club.
