SENATE BILL NO. 111

SUPPLEMENTAL PAY. Provides relative to supplemental pay to certain law enforcement
officers whose agency is headquartered in Lake Charles. (8/1/24)
1	AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 40:1667.1(A)(2)(a), relative to supplemental pay for certain law
3 enforcement officers whose agency is headquartered in the city of Lake Charles
4 under certain circumstances; and to provide for related matters.
5	Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 40:1667.1(A)(2)(a) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as
8 follows:
9 ยง1667.1. Rate of compensation; prior service; supplemental monthly compensation;

12	(2)(a) Every sworn, commissioned law enforcement officer employed on a
13 full-time basis by a bona fide police agency of the state or its political subdivisions,
14 other than the Department of Public Safety and Corrections and the Department of
15 Wildlife and Fisheries, and headquartered in the city of New Orleans, and
16 headquartered in the city of Lake Charles, and who serves the welfare of the
17 public in the capacity of a police officer by providing police services to the general

1 public through effecting arrests, issuing citations, and serving warrants while
2 patrolling levees, waterways, and riverfront areas, or while patrolling bridges that are
3 within the boundaries of the city of New Orleans, or the city of Lake Charles shall
4 be paid by the state extra compensation in the amount of six hundred dollars per
5 month in addition to the compensation now paid to him by his employer out of
6 self-generated revenue attributable to the agency employing such officers. To be
7 eligible for the extra compensation, each such law enforcement officer shall have
8 completed one year of service, and any such law enforcement officer hired after
9 March 31, 1986, shall also have completed and passed a council-certified training
10 program, as provided in R.S. 40:2405.

Present law requires that every sworn, commissioned law enforcement officer employed on
a full-time basis by a bona fide police agency of the state or its political subdivisions, other
than the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections and the Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries, and
headquartered in the city of New Orleans, who serves the welfare of the public in the
capacity of a police officer by providing police services while patrolling levees, waterways,
and riverfront areas, or while patrolling bridges that are within the boundaries of the city of
New Orleans, be paid by the state extra compensation in the amount of $600 per month in
addition to the compensation now paid to him by his employer. 
Proposed law retains present law and adds law enforcement agencies headquartered in the
city of Lake Charles that patrol levees, waterways, and riverfront areas, or patrol bridges to
the list of eligible agencies to receive monthly supplemental pay of $600. 
Effective August 1, 2024.
