2024 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 111 BY SENATOR ABRAHAM 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact R.S. 40:1667.1(A)(2)(a), relative to supplemental pay for certain law 3 enforcement officers whose agency is headquartered in the city of Lake Charles 4 under certain circumstances; and to provide for related matters. 5 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published. 6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 7 Section 1. R.S. 40:1667.1(A)(2)(a) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as 8 follows: 9 ยง1667.1. Rate of compensation; prior service; supplemental monthly compensation; 10 police to receive additional compensation 11 A. * * * 12 (2)(a) Every sworn, commissioned law enforcement officer employed on a 13 full-time basis by a bona fide police agency of the state or its political subdivisions, 14 other than the Department of Public Safety and Corrections and the Department of 15 Wildlife and Fisheries, and headquartered in either the city of New Orleans, or Lake 16 Charles, and who serves the welfare of the public in the capacity of a police officer 17 by providing police services to the general public through effecting arrests, issuing 18 citations, and serving warrants while patrolling levees, waterways, and riverfront 19 areas, or while patrolling bridges that are within the boundaries of the city of New 20 Orleans, or the city of Lake Charles shall be paid by the state extra compensation 21 in the amount of six hundred dollars per month in addition to the compensation now 22 paid to him by his employer out of self-generated revenue attributable to the agency 23 employing such officers. To be eligible for the extra compensation, each such law 24 enforcement officer shall have completed one year of service, and any such law 25 enforcement officer hired after March 31, 1986, shall also have completed and 26 passed a council-certified training program, as provided in R.S. 40:2405. 27 * * * Page 1 of 2 Coding: Words which are struck through are deletions from existing law; words in boldface type and underscored are additions. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not 2 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature 3 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If 4 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become 5 effective on the day following such approval.
