RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 150 (SB 228) 2024 Regular Session McMath Existing law requires the La. Board of Pharmacy to issue annual licenses for a pharmacy to dispense recommended marijuana for therapeutic use, with a limit of ten licenses in the state. Existing law provides for exceptions for satellite pharmacies authorized by the board based on active, qualified patient counts. New law changes the patient count review period from the preceding three months to the preceding 24 months. Prior law identified the La. State University Agricultural Center and the Southern University Agricultural Center as the licensed producers of marijuana for therapeutic use in the state. Prior law authorized each university to contract with one contractor to produce therapeutic marijuana. New law removes the universities as the licensees and transfers the licenses on July 1, 2024, to the two contractors who had contracts with the universities on January 1, 2024. New law establishes procedures for the La. Department of Health (LDH) to renew or revoke the licenses. Existing law establishes a sunset provision for the therapeutic marijuana program. New law extends the termination date from January 1, 2025 to July 1, 2030. Effective May 22, 2024.
