SLS 24RS-469 ORIGINAL 2024 Regular Session SENATE BILL NO. 237 BY SENATOR PRESSLY AGRICULTURAL COMMODITIES. Provides relative to industrial hemp. (8/1/24) 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact the introductory paragraph of R.S. 3:1464(9) and 1464(9)(d) and (f), 3 relative to industrial hemp; to provide for the regulation of industrial hemp; to 4 provide for powers and responsibilities of the commission and the commissioner; to 5 provide for licensure; to provide for reports; and to provide for related matters. 6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 7 Section 1. The introductory paragraph of R.S. 3:1464(9) and 1464(9)(d) and (f) are 8 hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 9 ยง1464. Powers and duties of the commissioner 10 The commissioner shall: 11 * * * 12 (9) On or before January 31, 2020, and annually for four eight years 13 thereafter, submit a status report on the state's industrial hemp program to the House 14 Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development and the 15 Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development. 16 The report shall include the following information: 17 * * * Page 1 of 2 Coding: Words which are struck through are deletions from existing law; words in boldface type and underscored are additions. DIGEST SB 237 Original 2024 Regular Session Pressly Present law provides that for the years of 2020 to 2024, the commissioner shall submit an annual report on the status of the state's industrial hemp program to the House and Senate committees on agriculture. Provides that, among other items, the report shall include information on the number of licenses issued to growers with land under 200 acres and the total amount of industrial hemp sold from those growers to processors as well as the estimated value of the industrial hemp industry. Proposed law extends the reporting for four additional years and changes the report to provide that it shall include the total quantity and dollar amount of industrial hemp sold from growers with land under 200 acres and requires the estimated value of the industrial hemp industry be reported by parish as well as statewide.
