SLS 24RS-234 ORIGINAL 2024 Regular Session SENATE BILL NO. 269 BY SENATOR MIZELL CRIMINAL JUSTICE. Requires in person human trafficking training for law enforcement. (8/1/24) 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact R.S. 40:2405.7(D)(1), relative to human trafficking training; to 3 require in person training; and to provide for related matters. 4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 5 Section 1. R.S. 40:2405.7(D)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 6 ยง2405.7. Human trafficking training; report to legislature 7 * * * 8 D.(1)(a) Within one year of employment, all peace officers, as defined in 9 R.S. 40:2402, shall receive seven hours of training on human trafficking from the 10 Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training's online Learning Management 11 System program. All peace officers employed on August 1, 2022, who have been 12 employed for one year or more, shall receive seven hours of training on human 13 trafficking from the Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training's Learning 14 Management System program by December 31, 2022. 15 (b) In addition to the requirements described in Subparagraph (a) of this 16 Paragraph, within one year of employment, all peace officers shall receive three 17 hours of in person training on human trafficking from an accredited law Page 1 of 2 Coding: Words which are struck through are deletions from existing law; words in boldface type and underscored are additions. DIGEST SB 269 Original 2024 Regular Session Mizell Present law requires all peace officers to receive seven hours of training on human trafficking from the Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training's (P.O.S.T.) online Learning Management System program. Proposed law retains present law and requires all peace officers to receive three hours of in person training on human trafficking from a P.O.S.T. accredited law enforcement training center in this state.
