SUMMARY OF HOUSE AMENDMENTS TO THE SENATE BILL
1. Changes the restricted proximity from one-half mile to 1,000 feet.
2. Adds a provision restricting forensic psychiatric hospitals from being
located within 1,000 feet from sites where a public or private elementary
or secondary school was formerly located.
3. Clarifies that the provisions of proposed law shall not apply to a forensic
psychiatric hospital issued an initial license before Aug. 1, 2024, that
seeks to renew the license.
4. Makes technical changes.

Proposed law prohibits a forensic psychiatric hospital issued an initial license after Aug.
1, 2024 from being located within 1,000 feet from a public or private elementary or
secondary school or any site on which a public or private elementary or secondary school
was formerly located.
Proposed law clarifies that a forensic psychiatric hospital issued an initial license before
Aug. 1, 2024 shall not be subject to the provisions of proposed law.
Proposed law authorizes a local governing authority to establish additional requirements
for the psychiatric facilities in proposed law.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
