DIGEST SB 462 Original 2024 Regular Session Hodges Proposed law provides that notwithstanding any contrary provision of present law, the governor may elect to appoint the chairman, or any other officer, of each board and commission whose appointment is not otherwise provided for in present constitution. Proposed law provides that the governor must notify each board and commission for which he has elected to appoint the chairman or any other officer of his intentions within 20 days of taking office and that the governor must make the appointment no later than the first day of the first regular session of the legislature during the first year of his term. Proposed law provides that if the governor fails to notify any board or commission within 20 days of taking office that he has elected to appoint the chairman or any other officer then the election of the chairman or other officer will take place as provided by present law or rule or regulation promulgated by the board or commission. Proposed law provides that any appointment made by the governor pursuant to proposed law must be from the membership of the board or commission and is subject to Senate confirmation. Proposed law provides that any gubernatorial appointment made pursuant to proposed law and confirmed by the Senate will serve at the pleasure of the governor in the position to which appointed. Proposed law provides that for the gubernatorial term of office beginning January 8, 2024, any election or appointment made pursuant to proposed law must be made no later than August 1, 2024.
