Designates Tuesday, May 7, 2024, as Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To designate Tuesday, May 7, 2024, as Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Day at the 3 Louisiana State Capitol. 4 WHEREAS, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a life-threatening 5 condition characterized by poor oxygenation and non-compliant lungs, affecting thousands 6 of Americans each year; and 7 WHEREAS, ARDS is caused by various factors including sepsis, trauma, blood 8 transfusions, pancreatitis, drug overdose, and in some cases, COVID-19, leading to 9 significant challenges in diagnosis and treatment; and 10 WHEREAS, there is a critical need to raise awareness about ARDS among medical 11 professionals and the general public to ensure timely diagnosis and appropriate management; 12 and 13 WHEREAS, despite advancements in medical care, ARDS remains a serious 14 condition with a high mortality rate and substantial financial burden on patients and 15 healthcare systems; and 16 WHEREAS, the Andrew Tod Thompson Memorial (ATTM) Foundation, established 17 in 2023, in Louisiana stands as a beacon of support for affected families, current patients, 18 and research efforts aimed at improving treatments and outcomes for ARDS.
