2024 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 43 BY SENATOR MIGUEZ A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To designate Tuesday, May 7, 2024, as Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. WHEREAS, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a life-threatening condition characterized by poor oxygenation and non-compliant lungs, affecting thousands of Americans each year; and WHEREAS, ARDS is caused by various factors including sepsis, trauma, blood transfusions, pancreatitis, drug overdose, and in some cases, COVID-19, leading to significant challenges in diagnosis and treatment; and WHEREAS, there is a critical need to raise awareness about ARDS among medical professionals and the general public to ensure timely diagnosis and appropriate management; and WHEREAS, despite advancements in medical care, ARDS remains a serious condition with a high mortality rate and substantial financial burden on patients and healthcare systems; and WHEREAS, the Andrew Tod Thompson Memorial (ATTM) Foundation, established in 2023, in Louisiana stands as a beacon of support for affected families, current patients, and research efforts aimed at improving treatments and outcomes for ARDS. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Tuesday, May 7, 2024, as Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
