COMMENDATIONS. Commends and congratulates the Zwolle High School boys
basketball team on winning their 17
th
state championship.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend and congratulate the Zwolle High School boys basketball team on their 17th
3 state championship.
4 WHEREAS, Zwolle High School is a basketball dynasty that has been winning boys
5 basketball titles for decades; and
6 WHEREAS, the legacy of championship excellence for the Zwolle Hawks began in
7 1968, when they secured their first boys basketball state title by triumphing over district rival
8 Florien in the Class B title game; and
9 WHEREAS, this initial success set the stage for further triumphs, notably in 1985,
10 when the Hawks once again claimed the championship, foreshadowing a remarkable era of
11 dominance; and
12 WHEREAS, from 1988 to 1994, the Hawks embarked on a historic run, clinching
13 seven consecutive championships in Classes B and AA, establishing themselves as a
14 powerhouse in Louisiana high school boys basketball; and
15 WHEREAS, under the guidance of Coach Bradley McLaren, the Hawks continued
16 their winning ways, capturing the state title in 2006, marking their 10th championship and
17 the beginning of a new era of success; and
18 WHEREAS, Coach McLaren's leadership has been instrumental in guiding the

1 Hawks to further victories, with additional state titles secured in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012,
2 2017, 2023, and now, in 2024; and
3 WHEREAS, while the Hawks have consistently showcased their prowess by earning
4 numerous appearances in the state championships, it is worth noting their resilience and
5 determination, evident in their six state runner-up titles earned since 1968; and
6 WHEREAS, the 2024 boys basketball state championship victory is a landmark
7 achievement for Zwolle, Louisiana, and the entire state, marking the Hawks' 17th state
8 championship title and placing them at the summit of Louisiana high school boys basketball,
9 with no other school having achieved more than 16 state championships; and
10 WHEREAS, this historic accomplishment is a testament to the dedication, skill, and
11 spirit of the Zwolle community, players, coaches, and supporters, who have united behind
12 the Hawks' tradition of excellence.
13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
14 commend and congratulate the Zwolle High School boys basketball team on their 17th state
15 championship.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
17 Coach Bradley McLaren and the Zwolle High School boys basketball team.
