SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 125

TRANSPORTATION/DEV DEPT. Urges and requests the Department of Transportation
and Development to address the problem relative to the Interstate 20 construction zone and
the impact on local, state and national businesses located in Bossier City.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to provide an
3 alternative rather than prohibiting large commercial vehicles on the portion of
4 Interstate 20 in Bossier City between Hamilton Road and Industrial Drive.
5 WHEREAS, Interstate 20 in Bossier City is a crucial artery for local, state, and
6 national traffic; and
7 WHEREAS, the current construction project on Interstate 20 has eliminated large
8 commercial traffic to crucial businesses between the Hamilton Road and Industrial Drive
9 exits; and
10 WHEREAS, many studies and discussion have gone into the matter, pleas for
11 assistance have gone unanswered, with the result being a prohibition on commercial
12 vehicles; and
13 WHEREAS, since the prohibition went into effect many traffic tickets to commercial
14 drivers have been issued; and
15 WHEREAS, Governor Jeff Landry was elected on a platform of, "No business as
16 usual" and a "can do" mindset; and
17 WHEREAS, this is a prime opportunity to offer a viable alternative for constituents
18 that provide local, state, and national services based on this small stretch of interstate.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Louisiana Senate does hereby urge and
2 request the Department of Transportation and Development to address the problems and
3 provide an alternative, other than prohibiting large commercial vehicles on the portion of
4 Interstate 20 in Bossier City between Hamilton Road and Industrial Drive, during the
5 construction currently taking place on Interstate 20.
