SLS 24RS-51 ORIGINAL 2024 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3 BY SENATOR FOIL CONDOLENCES. Expresses sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Hans Paulsen Armstrong on the occasion of his passing. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of 3 Louisiana to the family and friends of Dr. Hans Paulsen Armstrong on the occasion 4 of his passing on December 28, 2023. 5 WHEREAS, Dr. Hans Paulsen Armstrong was born on March 21, 1932, and grew 6 up in Baton Rouge where he attended University High School, excelling in sports and 7 serving as the quarterback and punter for the football team and the catcher for the baseball 8 team; and 9 WHEREAS, Dr. Armstrong attended Louisiana State University, was a proud 10 member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity (DEKE), and attended Louisiana State 11 University Medical School in New Orleans; and 12 WHEREAS, upon graduation from LSU Medical School in New Orleans, he 13 completed a pediatric surgical residency at Pittsburg Children's Hospital; and 14 WHEREAS, after completion of his residency program, Dr. Armstrong returned to 15 his hometown of Baton Rouge and dedicated his life to caring for the community's ailing 16 children; and 17 WHEREAS, Dr. Armstrong was well-respected and highly regarded in the medical 18 community throughout his career for his tireless commitment to the children of Baton Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 3 SLS 24RS-51 ORIGINAL 1 Rouge; and 2 WHEREAS, among his many medical contributions was a surgery in 1985 where his 3 team successfully separated the first set of conjoined twins born in Baton Rouge; and 4 WHEREAS, Dr. Armstrong was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and 5 fishing in Sportsman's Paradise; and 6 WHEREAS, he was a proud veteran of the United States Army after being stationed 7 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; and 8 WHEREAS, Dr. Armstrong was greatly involved in Trinity Episcopal Church where 9 he served on the Vestry and volunteered in numerous other capacities; and 10 WHEREAS, one of his greatest joys was in his role of husband of sixty-one years to 11 Margaret Earhart Armstrong with whom he is now reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven; and 12 WHEREAS, Dr. Armstrong leaves behind a legacy of eight wonderful and 13 accomplished children, Dr. Tim Armstrong (Judy), Dr. Kevin Armstrong (Lisa), Kyle 14 Armstrong (Karen), Dr. Karlan Armstrong (Erika), Keith Armstrong (Mary Beth), Dr. Paul 15 Armstrong (Beckie), Katherine Brown (Keith), and Elizabeth Fabian (Ted), as well as 16 twenty-two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and 17 WHEREAS, Dr. Armstrong will be greatly missed by his family, his patients, his 18 Trinity Episcopal Church family, and the Baton Rouge community at large. 19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 20 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the passing of Dr. Hans Paulsen 21 Armstrong. 22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 23 family of Dr. Hans Paulsen Armstrong.
