Recognizes Wednesday, April 24, 2024, as Louisiana Renewable Energy Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To designate Wednesday, April 24, 2024, as Louisiana Renewable Energy Day at the 3 Louisiana State Capitol. 4 WHEREAS, Louisiana boasts impressive supplies of onshore and offshore energy 5 resources; and 6 WHEREAS, Louisiana's natural resources have provided thousands of jobs and 7 billions of dollars in economic development; and 8 WHEREAS, according to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana's rich 9 history and expertise in energy development will pave the way for new emerging industries; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, solar energy has become increasingly affordable and efficient in recent 12 years, and can provide significant economic and environmental benefits to our state; and 13 WHEREAS, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association, Louisiana's solar 14 energy resources are expected to grow by more than ten-fold over the next few years; and 15 WHEREAS, solar growth in Louisiana could bring over four billion dollars in 16 economic development and over four thousand construction jobs; and 17 WHEREAS, wind energy is an abundant and growing source of renewable energy 18 that can create jobs and economic opportunities in Louisiana; and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 60 SLS 24RS-2172 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, Louisiana's maritime and oil and gas industries were instrumental in 2 building the United States' first offshore wind farm; and 3 WHEREAS, battery storage technology is improving rapidly and can play a critical 4 role in integrating renewable energy sources into our electric grid and creating new jobs in 5 the energy sector; and 6 WHEREAS, hydrogen is a versatile energy carrier that can be produced from 7 renewable sources and used in a variety of applications, including transportation and 8 industrial processes, creating new economic opportunities in Louisiana; and 9 WHEREAS, the potential for growth in the clean hydrogen sector is anticipated to 10 be significant in Louisiana due to the state's existing infrastructure and expertise, and 11 development of the Hydrogen Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma (HALO) Hydrogen Hub; 12 and 13 WHEREAS, the vast majority of new power plant facilities proposed in Louisiana 14 are renewable energy projects across fifty parishes; and 15 WHEREAS, the development of renewable energy and clean energy jobs can create 16 good-paying jobs and support local economies in Louisiana, particularly in rural and coastal 17 areas that have been hard hit by economic challenges; and 18 WHEREAS, supporting renewable energy and clean energy jobs can help diversify 19 our state's economy and position Louisiana as a leader in the transition to a clean energy 20 future; and 21 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to 22 recognize Louisiana Renewable Energy Day. 23 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 24 does hereby recognize Wednesday, April 24, 2024, as Louisiana Renewable Energy Day at 25 the Louisiana State Capitol.
