Expresses sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of David Morris Gauthier on the occasion of his passing. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of 3 Louisiana to the family and friends of David Morris Gauthier on the occasion of his 4 passing. 5 WHEREAS, David Morris Gauthier was born on August 17, 1933, in New Orleans, 6 Louisiana, and was a lifelong resident of the city, embodying its spirit of resilience and 7 compassion; and 8 WHEREAS, David Gauthier's commitment to his faith was evident from a young 9 age, as he accepted Christ at Union Bethel AME Church at the age of twelve, remaining a 10 devoted member throughout his lifetime and serving in various capacities within the church 11 community, including the Sons of Allen Fellowship; and 12 WHEREAS, David Gauthier graduated from Booker T. Washington in 1951 and 13 served his country with honor and valor as a member of the United States Navy from 1951 14 to 1954, demonstrating his patriotism and dedication to the principles of freedom and 15 service; and 16 WHEREAS, David Gauthier pursued higher education at Dillard University, where 17 he studied sociology, laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning and personal growth; 18 and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 66 SLS 24RS-1931 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, David Gauthier's professional journey was marked by dedication and 2 excellence, spanning nearly eighty years of active involvement in the workforce, including 3 roles at McKesson and Robbins Wholesale Drug Company, the U.S. Post Office, the 4 hotel/motel industry, and the New Orleans Public Schools, where he made lasting 5 contributions to his community; and 6 WHEREAS, David Gauthier's leadership extended beyond his professional 7 endeavors, as he served as a union organizer and local president of the New Orleans Postal 8 Workers Union, advocating tirelessly for the rights and well-being of his fellow workers; and 9 WHEREAS, David Gauthier was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings 10 Pauline, Paul Edgar, Marguerite, Stella, Leonard, Ruby Inez, Alvin, his twin Dorothy, his 11 first wife Henrietta Lee Gauthier, and a son Michael Nathaniel Gauthier; and 12 WHEREAS, David Gauthier was a loving and protective patriarch within his family, 13 a pillar of strength and support whose presence will be deeply missed by his loved ones, 14 including his second wife Brenda Carcisse Gauthier, his children, Willie (Maria) Lee 15 Gauthier, Katherine (Michael) Batiste, Carolyn (Bernard) Toppings, Ronald Gauthier, Doris 16 Gauthier, Bryan (Monique) Gauthier, and Cheryl (Aristede) Hayes and a host of 17 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives and 18 friends; and 19 WHEREAS, David Gauthier's legacy of faith, dedication, and service will continue 20 to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing him, leaving an indelible mark on the 21 hearts and minds of the New Orleans community and beyond. 22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 23 does hereby expresses its sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of 24 David Morris Gauthier on the occasion of his passing. 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his 26 niece, Paulette Bailey-Wilson.
