COMMENDAT IONS. Honors and commends Pastor S.C. Dixon on his 28
th
 Pastoral
Anniversary at Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To honor and commend Pastor Shelton Charles "S.C." Dixon on his 28th Pastoral
3 Anniversary at Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
4 WHEREAS, Reverend Shelton Charles "S.C." Dixon was born on May 3, 1965, in
5 Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Mr. and Mrs. Shelton Dixon Sr., and has dedicated his life to
6 preaching the word of the risen Savior; and
7 WHEREAS, when Reverend Dixon was called to preach the uncompromising word,
8 he answered and preached his first sermon June 30, 1987; he became a pastor in 1988, and
9 in 1996, Reverend Dixon founded the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in
10 Baton Rouge, currently serving a congregation of more than 700 members; and
11 WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon has exemplified leadership and service throughout his
12 28 years as pastor of Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church; and
13 WHEREAS, in 1997, Reverend Dixon was honored by the Lambda Alpha Chapter
14 of Omega Psi Fraternity, Inc. as "Citizen of the Year", and in 1998, he was honored as
15 "Minister of the Year" by the Early Risers Kiwanis Club; and
16 WHEREAS, in 2008, Reverend Dixon received his Bachelor of Arts from the
17 Calvary Theological Seminary in Lake Charles in Religious Education and a Minor in
18 Ministry, and in 2010, he was inducted into "The Fraternity of The Sword" at the Biblical

1 Exposition Conference in Chicago; and
2 WHEREAS, the Great Flood of 2016 caused major flood damage to the church's
3 three buildings as well as the homes of 53 members of his congregation, including Reverend
4 Dixon's; and
5 WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon played a pivotal role in the restoration of Greater
6 Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church and the surrounding community by collaborating
7 with the congregations of other Baptist churches, including University Baptist Church,
8 Broadmoor Baptist Church, and True Light Baptist Church in Baton Rouge as well as
9 volunteers affiliated with Cooperative Baptist Fellowship from across the United States; and
10 WHEREAS, twenty-one months after the flood, in his first sermon from his pulpit
11 in the renovated church, Reverend Dixon spoke about what had been gained through the
12 rebuilding experience; he spoke about witnessing the power of interracial bridge-building
13 and the many meaningful relationships formed across congregations; and
14 WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon leadership during Greater Mount Olive Missionary
15 Baptist Church's journey to recovery symbolizes his resilience, faith, and the spirit of
16 community restoration; and
17 WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon is committed to lifelong learning and is currently
18 pursuing a master of divinity degree at the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky; and
19 WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon is an inspiration to his congregation and his leadership
20 has been instrumental in fostering growth and development within his congregation.
21 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
22 does hereby honor and commend Pastor Shelton Charles "S.C." Dixon on his 28th Pastoral
23 Anniversary at Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church and recognize his
24 unwavering dedication to faith, community building, education, and service.
