2024 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 77 BY SENATOR FIELDS A RESOLUTION To honor and commend Pastor Shelton Charles "S.C." Dixon on his 28th Pastoral Anniversary at Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. WHEREAS, Reverend Shelton Charles "S.C." Dixon was born on May 3, 1965, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Mr. and Mrs. Shelton Dixon Sr., and has dedicated his life to preaching the word of the risen Savior; and WHEREAS, when Reverend Dixon was called to preach the uncompromising word, he answered and preached his first sermon June 30, 1987; he became a pastor in 1988, and in 1996, Reverend Dixon founded the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, currently serving a congregation of more than 700 members; and WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon has exemplified leadership and service throughout his 28 years as pastor of Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, in 1997, Reverend Dixon was honored by the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Fraternity, Inc. as "Citizen of the Year", and in 1998, he was honored as "Minister of the Year" by the Early Risers Kiwanis Club; and WHEREAS, in 2008, Reverend Dixon received his Bachelor of Arts from the Calvary Theological Seminary in Lake Charles in Religious Education and a Minor in Ministry, and in 2010, he was inducted into "The Fraternity of The Sword" at the Biblical Exposition Conference in Chicago; and WHEREAS, the Great Flood of 2016 caused major flood damage to the church's three buildings as well as the homes of 53 members of his congregation, including Reverend Dixon's; and WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon played a pivotal role in the restoration of Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church and the surrounding community by collaborating with the congregations of other Baptist churches, including University Baptist Church, Broadmoor Baptist Church, and True Light Baptist Church in Baton Rouge as well as volunteers affiliated with Cooperative Baptist Fellowship from across the United States; and WHEREAS, twenty-one months after the flood, in his first sermon from his pulpit Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 77 ENROLLED in the renovated church, Reverend Dixon spoke about what had been gained through the rebuilding experience; he spoke about witnessing the power of interracial bridge-building and the many meaningful relationships formed across congregations; and WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon leadership during Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church's journey to recovery symbolizes his resilience, faith, and the spirit of community restoration; and WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon is committed to lifelong learning and is currently pursuing a master of divinity degree at the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky; and WHEREAS, Reverend Dixon is an inspiration to his congregation and his leadership has been instrumental in fostering growth and development within his congregation. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby honor and commend Pastor Shelton Charles "S.C." Dixon on his 28th Pastoral Anniversary at Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church and recognizes his unwavering dedication to faith, community building, education, and service.
